True Enemy

I’ve heard people say, “If you can see it or touch it, it is not your enemy.”  If you have your strongholds built up and Satan can’t get to you, he’ll get to you through your family, your children, your circumstances.

Ephesians 6:12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

When our children mouth off and don’t do their chores, when that jerk cuts us off in traffic, when the cash machine is broken, and yes, even when we spill coffee on our shirts, this is all Satan trying to steal our joy.  He’s waiting for us to lose our cool and yell at the people in our lives and be frustrated.  Then he’s done his job.  But when we just shrug a shoulder, take a deep breath, and remember that our Savior has already defeated Satan, we win.  And I believe that is when Jesus smiles down on us and our hearts are filled with even more joy.
